Reverse Engineering
Do you have a circuit board that you need to duplicate or modify? Don’t have the original files or artwork? If you can provide us an existing board we can extract the design.
What is Reverse Engineering?
If you have an older PCB that you need to duplicate or make a modification to, contact us to discuss the complexity of the design and what the options are. The level of effort to reverse engineer a PCB scales with the number of layers and size of the board.
We’ll need at least one example of the board for reverse engineering. Components are removed, cataloged, and values measured to create a bill of materials (BOM). Sourcing new components should be considered as older parts may have to be replaced with newer equivalents or alternate solutions for the circuit. A component library for this BOM will be built and a schematic will be created from the board and verified. With this extracted schematic any desired circuit changes can be made. Layout of the board can either faithfully reproduce the original board or be modified as desired.
Examples of Reverse Engineering
- Component Removal & Reinstall
- PCB Deconstruction by Layer
- As-is or Changes to Design
- Obsolete Component Replacement
- Technology Change (TH to SMD etc.) or Board Shape / Size
